From the NFL to the boil.

How a former NFL center turned bold Asian flavors and Cajun-style boils into Angry Crab Shack.

How Angry Crab got cracking

The Angry Crab Shack story, year by year, from the NFL to today.

  1. 1970s

    Ron Lou, NFL center

Before the bibs came the shoulder pads. California native Ron Lou spent four years as an NFL center with the Houston Oilers and the Philadelphia Eagles.

  2. 2012

    35 years, one big idea

Over 35 years, Ron built a breakfast eatery, a sports bar and three Chinese restaurants. Then he wanted something unique: not another wing, burger or pizza place.

  3. 2013

The first shack opens in Mesa

Ron paired bold Asian flavors with his seafood know-how and brought the boil to Mesa, Arizona: family friendly, vibrant, and quality seafood at a fair price.

  4. 2014

    More shacks, one big family

As the shacks grew, Ron made a family culture for the crew a priority, along with giving back to local charities and those in need.

  5. 2016

    The boil leaves Arizona

Our first shack outside Arizona opens, and the bibs, the bags and the bold flavors travel with it. From here, the map only gets bigger.

  6. 2023

    Ten years of cracking crab

A decade after the first boil in Mesa, we marked our 10th anniversary with the guests and the crew who made it all happen.

  7. 2024

    A shack in London

Angry Crab Shack crosses the Atlantic with a shack on Rupert Street, bringing the bibs-on seafood boil to London.

  8. 2026

Our crew, our growing family

Our Angry Crab family extends to our guests, but it starts with our employees. Our crabbin’ culture is all about a fun, family environment. We created this concept with the intent to grow our family, give opportunities to emerging entrepreneurs, and bring good cooking everywhere we expand.

Don’t take our word for it

Real guests, real messes.

  • I had an awesome experience at Angry Crab Shack thanks to our server, Aiden. From the moment we sat down, he was friendly, attentive, and made us feel welcome. He was knowledgeable about the menu, gave great recommendations, and made sure our drinks stayed full and that we had everything we needed without ever being…

  • Such an unusual place and the food was great! Glad we had bibs and gloves!! My pictures do NOT do justice to the experience we had. Lobster rolls were delicious and less messy than the bags of shrimp and fish. But the bags and their contents were way more fun! Looking forward to going back for more!!
